Downtown Streets

Dear Community Members,

It’s that time of year again! We are working hard planning the annual Downtown Streets Team Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner in honor of its founder, Estelle Chalfin. We are looking for volunteers and people to deliver food and supplies. We will be serving 400+ unhoused neighbors over this two-day period. The holidays can be isolating and bring up painful memories for the most vulnerable in our community. When the larger community gets together to show we care it can bring a glimmer of hope in an otherwise hard time – thank you for your support of this important event.

Our biggest needs are:

  1.  Purchasing food and supplies on our shopping list and dropping them off at the Church on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, November 27 between 9 AM until noon.   Sign up to donate supplies here. Sign up to donate food items here. * Please note that there are two separate lists so check both if you’re looking to donate supplies or food.
  2.  Helping to prepare the meal, set up, serve and clean up on Thanksgiving and at our leftover meal on Friday, November 29th. Every year we struggle to get enough volunteers for the leftover meal so please consider that option if your schedule allows. Sign up to volunteer here.
  3.  Lastly, although much of the cost of putting on these meals every year is covered through your volunteering and in-kind donations, costs have increased dramatically over the last several years. If you’re not able to volunteer or donate items, please consider helping DST cover the costs of this meal by making a financial donation here. Any excess funds raised will support the Palo Alto Downtown Streets Team and the Food Closet’s annual operating costs, which rely on community donations like yours throughout the year.

Please send any questions to chris@streetsteam.org.

Thank you for supporting another year of this amazing tradition of service and community.
